This morning, from their hotel the Velindre East Cost Bike Ride challengers followed the ocean road to Point Judith Lighthouse, Galilee and then continued south towards Tuckertown and the Burlingame State Park.
From there they cycled through the park to Westerly, a town on the south-western shoreline of Washington County, Rhode Island. After Westerly, they entered into Connecticut, their third State of this epic challenge.
The riders were promised a day of rolling undulations and a couple of challenging hills, small quaint towns and larger busier towns. However, we're not sure that the riders would agree that the 30 miles of hills that they batteled with weary legs qualified as just undulations at all, with one rider tweeting 'Lunch after 30 miles of hills- undulations indeed'.
For lunch they stopped in Mystic, historically, a major seaport in the area, before continuing onto New London, their stop for the night.
Upon reaching Groton, the roads busied as the riders followed the bike lane which runs parallel to the main highway before crossing the line at their hotel for the night.

Tomorrow the riders are straight back in the saddle for the longest day of their biking challenge! They have a short cycle to the ferry port where they board a ferry for a 1½ hour crossing to the tip of Long Island, New York. Once they have disembarked they face 35 miles as they follow a flat marked cycling route along Road 25.
At Port Jefferson they will then face their first (dreaded) hill for the day before continuing onto another cycling route this time on road 25A. The road follows the water, through wooded and typical residential areas. At mile 63 they continue with some further 'undulations' and short steep ascents and descents until mile 70.
From here they will enjoy a welcome smooth undulating ride into Woodbury, the final resting point before reaching NYC.
