Following on from the roaring success of their Triple Crown ride this year Ride of the Lions have announced details for their 2015 event, to be staged in Mallorca.
Initially set-up in 2013 when a select group of former Lions, as well as some keen cyclists and rugby fans, cycled with between Melbourne and Sydney with the match ball for the third and final Test, Ride of the Lions has since gone from strength-to-strength.
With the focus of their events very much centred on 'the spirit of rugby on a bike' they offer rugby and cycling fans alike the unique opportunity to cycle with their sporting heroes, as well as raising money for a worthy charity, Walking With The Wounded, at the same time.
Next year sees them take the show on the road to the cycling mecca that is Mallorca for what promises to be a challenging and enjoyable cycling experience. The event is open to both cyclist and those who just want to come along to support their partners but don't fancy saddling up themselves, and is set to take place in early May of next year.
So why not join several ex-Lions rugby players on this four day, fully supported cycling holiday. You will be staying in 4 star hotel accommodation overlooking the sea in the 'centre for cycling' in Mallorca, Port Pollensa, which is one of Team Sky's training bases. For the cyclist the trip includes all meals - a buffet breakfast, lunch and refreshments on the road, as well as dinner in hand-picked local restaurants. The final night will include a celebratory dinner and no doubt a few awards.
If you are interested in signing up, head over to the Ride of the Lions page for full details and pricing. And for those who might need a little more convincing, here is what we thought of this year's ride.
